ELEMENTARY REPORT CARDS: ACTION
*Please read below from the Instruction Department.
Dear Elementary Teachers,
As part of our recent “Off the Plate” MOU, and in response to teacher and administrator feedback, a refinement team consisting of teachers, TOSAs and administrators has been working to develop a streamlined elementary report card that reduces the number of reporting strands for ELA, math and science.
The purpose of this work has been to make the report card more manageable for teachers and helpful for families. Because this group is charged with streamlining/refining the report card, there was also a charge not to add new reporting strands.
The refinement process has included:
A review of report cards from neighboring districts
A check on how potential streamlined report strands could be aligned with required learning standards
Alignment of strands from one grade level to the next
Efforts to make the report card language family-friendly. This includes using language that is more readily translatable.
A draft of the potential revised reporting strands can be found here. You can navigate to the content areas being consolidated using the tabs at the bottom of the sheet. A comparison of the current strands with the revised strands can be found here.
You can provide feedback on the proposed strands using this link.
We will also be holding two information and feedback sessions on the following dates:
Tuesday, 5/2 4:00-4:45 PM Zoom Link (meeting ID 825 5981 4393)
Thursday, 5/4 8:00 - 8:45 AM Zoom Link (meeting ID 825 5981 4393)
We will reconvene the refinement team in late May/early June to review the feedback and finalize the changes so that we can share next year’s reporting strands before people leave for summer break.
NETWORK UPGRADES/PASSWORDS:HELPFUL
During Spring break or shortly after, IT will implement some upgrades to our underlying network structure that will provide needed security and usability improvements. Unfortunately, these changes will also reset staff passwords to their defaults.
For most staff IT has already addressed this issue when/if you received a new computer or when IT updated the existing computer to the latest operating system. IT keeps track of all password changes so will know who still needs to change their password. The IT team will contact the remaining staff or work with their supervisors to get passwords changed.
Important - If you have already worked with IT to change your password, do not change them again until we finish this transfer process in May.

If you are looking for a way to bring a little boost to a colleague, you can use this list or (as always) you can put in a staff shout out =) Our staff shout out form is at the top of the blog each week, and here is the link for staff preferences:

FUTURE SCOTS VISIT: HELPFUL
Please see below for information regarding the Future Scots event on June 6th. This is for 8th Grade students who plan on attending Shorecrest. Keep in mind, this event is happening during K-5 camp. In case students are asking you about the event, here is the information I have been given:
Future Scots Visit (8th Grade Students and Families)- Please see information below from SC Activities Coordinator:
Class of 2027 Shorecrest students are invited to our "Future Scots Welcome Morning" on Tuesday, June 6 from 9:00-10:10.This is a time for our new students to learn a little more about high school from older students who put on a program with information and performances in the gym and we follow it up with a question and answer session in small groups facilitated by student leaders.
Please arrive between 8:50-9:00 on Tuesday, June 6. Students may be dropped off at the Gym building on the south end of campus. Students will need to carpool or ride with family to Shorecrest. A bus will be provided from Shorecrest to Cascade K-8 after the event ends. We’ll have a welcome table set up and we’d like you to check in and get your name tag.
After the program in the Gym, we will walk to the Commons (our cafeteria) in the Main Building for a small group question and answer session. We’ll be putting new-to-the-district students together in small groups so that they can get to know each other.
We will dismiss at 10:10 in order to transition before our students come down to the Commons during a passing period.
This event is targeted to students and we don’t have special programming for parents. However, you are welcome to join us in the Gym and the Commons as a "fly on the wall". Please check in at the welcome table if you are a parent/guardian attending the event.
Tours of the school will not happen June 6, but will take place at the New Student Kick Off on the evening of August 31 (6:00-7:45) and at the New Student Orientation on the morning of September 5.
For questions and to RSVP (only necessary if currently out-of-district), please email Shorecrest Activity Coordinator: johanna.phillips@ssd412.org
