8.30.24 Staff Blog
Welcome back, and thank you for making this first week a positive experience for our entire school community. Your efforts (large and small) do not go unnoticed, and I am so grateful to be back in community with you.
Please pay special attention to our upcoming all school field trip to Edmonds Center for the Arts followed by picture day the following day. Please note that students will not need lunches or any supplies for the field trip on 9/25. You should plan on having students come into the building, leave their belongings, and get in line for the bus starting with 8th grade students. The scheduled departure time for the bus is 9:30.

WELCOME BACK P.A.C.K ASSEMBLY:
Please bring your flexibility!! We are planning a game that sets up a quiet competition between teachers and students. This competition will be to see who can be in line with a quiet wolf symbol the quickest and the quietest. My plan is to have you all model the quiet line with a quiet wolf symbol, and maybe ask that a couple of you are not getting it exactly right so students can tell you what to adjust. After your modeling, I was going to have students try to get in a line (in the line where they are seated) more quickly and quietly than you are able to do it. I know this might be a little chaotic, but I think it will be fun for all and relatively low noise.
CURRICULUM NIGHT SCHEDULE:
EDMONDS CENTER FOR THE ARTS WHOLE SCHOOL FIELD TRIP:
I am excited to announce that we are going to the Edmonds Center for the Arts for Quinteto Lantino on 9/25. Here is a link to the information about the group (I know this link says the show is at 2:00, but we would be attending a special showing for schools starting at 10:00). The Edmonds Center for the Arts will provide us with additional (optional) preparatory materials as we get closer to the field trip, but this link will give you some basic information.
Next week, you will have field trip forms in your mailbox to distribute to students. The goal is to have them returned by Tuesday 9/10, but of course, I recognize that is a fluid deadline. I am hoping that, because lunches will not be necessary, we can accept field trip forms through the week of 9/10.
Again, the scheduled departure from CK-8 is 9:30. The estimated time we should return is 11:30. K-3 classes, please plan to bring your lunch wagons to the cafeteria when you go to load the bus at 9:30. That way, students will have their lunches staged and can go from the field trip bus directly to the cafeteria for lunch. 4th and 5th grade should go from the field trip bus to the playground as they usually would. Journey will return to class until they are dismissed for lunch.
We will have an opportunity to discuss and finalize details as a staff during our early release meeting time together on 9/18.
NEW SLP INTRODUCTION (TUESDAYS AND THURSDAYS- PM):
Hello Cascade!
My name is Olivia (she/her) and I am the SLP at Cascade this year. I have been an SLP for 5 years and this is my 3rd in the district. One of the first things I do with my speech students is to build a “Communication quick book” to reflect on communication style, interests, strengths and regulation tools. I thought it fitting to share my example with you all to get to know me a little more:)
I split my time between Shorecrest HS, the District based transition program and Cascade but you can find me at Cascade on Tuesdays (AM/PM) and Thursday (PM) in the reading intervention room.
I look forward to working with you all!
Olivia
