BIG PICTURE FOR CONSIDERATION: HELPFUL

6/7 Camp

June 5-8

K-5 Camp

NETWORK UPGRADES/PASSWORDS:HELPFUL

During Spring break or shortly after, IT will implement some upgrades to our underlying network structure that will provide needed security and usability improvements. Unfortunately, these changes will also reset staff passwords to their defaults.

For most staff IT has already addressed this issue when/if you received a new computer or when IT updated the existing computer to the latest operating system. IT keeps track of all password changes so will know who still needs to change their password. The IT team will contact the remaining staff or work with their supervisors to get passwords changed.

Important - If you  have already worked with IT to change your password, do not change them again until we finish this transfer process in May.

STAFF PREFERENCE SHEET: HELPFUL

If you have not had a chance to fill out your favorite things on our staff preference sheet, please take a look at this sheet and fill it in!  If you are looking for a way to bring a little boost to a colleague, you can use this list or (as always) you can put in a staff shout out =)  Our staff shout out form is at the top of the blog each week, and here is the link for staff preferences:

RAMADAN: HELPFUL

Ramadan is March 22 - April 20 this year and Muslims around the world will fast from dawn to sunset as part of their spiritual practices. Here are a few ways you can support Muslim students during Ramadan, especially at the middle and high school level (though some elementary students may choose to fast):

  • Consider opening your classroom for students as a food-free area during  lunch.

  • Allow students to walk during PE instead of running as they cannot drink water.

  • Provide a space for students to pray.

  • Be mindful of your Muslim students if passing out food or treats in class.

  • Provide alternative assessment options.

  • Allow students to take a quick break if they struggle to concentrate.

  • Be a support for students who may start wearing their hijab this month.

  • Remember it is not a student's responsibility to educate class members about Ramadan.

ETHNIC STUDIES SPEAKER SERIES: HELPFUL

The last Ethnic Studies speaker series' registration in ProDev is open to both certificated and classified staff. More information about the session can be found on this handout.

CLASS ART PROJECTS FOR THE AUCTION: ACTION

Ask from Corinna:

I’m writing from both the lead liaison AND auction chair position. Our newest teachers may not know, but every year at our auction (April 15th) we live-auction classroom projects. These projects typically sell for hundreds of dollars each, so it is essential to our fundraising goals. This is separate from the teacher experiences that Bonnie has, or will, mention to you.

For each of you, I’d like to know how much time we can take from your packed classroom schedule to have a volunteer come in and lead a project (could be shorter times over multiple days), and what days and times might work for you.

Please email to  let me know: CorinnaASullivan@gmail.com

We would like to have these complete by April 1st, so we have two months to find a space.

Please let me know so that I can get volunteers in your classes, and thanks in advance for your time.

FUTURE SCOTS VISIT: HELPFUL

Please see below for information regarding the Future Scots event on June 6th.  This is for 8th Grade students who plan on attending Shorecrest. Keep in mind, this event is happening during K-5 camp.  In case students are asking you about the event, here is the information I have been given:

Future Scots Visit (8th Grade Students and Families)- Please see information below from SC Activities Coordinator:

Class of 2027 Shorecrest students are invited to our "Future Scots Welcome Morning" on Tuesday, June 6 from 9:00-10:10.This is a time for our new students to learn a little more about high school from older students who put on a program with information and performances in the gym and we follow it up with a question and answer session in small groups facilitated by student leaders.

Please arrive between 8:50-9:00 on Tuesday, June 6. Students may be dropped off at the Gym building on the south end of campus. Students will need to carpool or ride with family to Shorecrest.  A bus will be provided from Shorecrest to Cascade K-8 after the event ends.  We’ll have a welcome table set up and we’d like you to check in and get your name tag.

After the program in the Gym, we will walk to the Commons (our cafeteria) in the Main Building for a small group question and answer session. We’ll be putting new-to-the-district students together in small groups so that they can get to know each other.

We will dismiss at 10:10 in order to transition before our students come down to the Commons during a passing period.

This event is targeted to students and we don’t have special programming for parents. However, you are welcome to join us in the Gym and the Commons as a "fly on the wall". Please check in at the welcome table if you are a parent/guardian attending the event.

Tours of the school will not happen June 6, but will take place at the New Student Kick Off on the evening of August 31 (6:00-7:45) and at the New Student Orientation on the morning of September 5.

For questions and to RSVP (only necessary if currently out-of-district), please email Shorecrest Activity Coordinator:  johanna.phillips@ssd412.org
