Thank you all for being our P.A.C.K leaders this week. I have had the pleasure of sharing with principal and district level leadership this week how truly amazing this staff at CK-8 is. I can’t say enough about your leadership and amazing instruction. Thank you for all you do.

In celebration of Martin Luther King Jr. Day and as a launch for Black Lives Matter in Schools week (February 6-10), we will have a K-5 assembly followed by a Journey assembly. These will be morning assemblies on Wednesday 1.25.23:
K-5- 9:30-10:00
Journey-10:15-11:00
The theme of the assemblies is student voice in impacting change. Here are some materials for your review.

You will notice that the lesson plans provided are geared toward Journey students (6-8 grade standards) for letter writing you may choose to do with them after the assembly.
For a quick trailer (30 second introduction) click here. As you can see from the time frame above, the K-5 assembly will be shorter and the letters shared would be more focused on younger writers.
BLACK LIVES MATTER IN SCHOOLS(FEBRUARY 6-10, 2023): ACTION
The Black Lives Matter in Schools lessons offer important insights into critical issues that face our society and the lives in the Black community:
Reflect the lived experiences of students, families, and friends
Help students understands inequities based on race
Affirm that the lives of people of color matter
Promote the belief that we all have a responsibility to work for equity as a core ideal

JUST IN CASE- 8TH GRADE CAMP INFORMATION SHARED WITH FAMILIES: HELPFUL
Dear 8th Grade Families:
It is time to start planning for 8th Grade Camp! Thank you for your patience as this is the first time I have done this. I am sharing information as I learn it, and I fully anticipate that there will be adjustments needed as I learn more about the process, however, I think it’s important for your planning purposes to begin looking over the materials and planning for classes with your student.

Here are some details you will need as we plan for this amazing week:
HEALTH REQUIREMENTS:
The health and safety of all participants and staff are our priority. We will use the best covid practices and recommendations to determine health and safety protocols for this program. As things may change, we may be updating all participants of protocols as we get closer to the event.
TRAVEL ITINERARY:
Sunday, February 26th – Depart CK8 in the early afternoon – approx. 1:00 p.m. via school bus.
Friday, March 3rd – Arrive back to Cascade in the afternoon. 8th grade students will need a ride home from CK8. Jennifer in the office will keep in touch with parents regarding exact timing.
COST/CAMP PAYMENTS:
The actual cost of camp is $600 plus the cost of transportation, snacks, and lunch on our trip back. The PTSA provides a portion of this total, but there are still some uncovered costs.
Payments can be made in the main office (checks made out to CK-8 ASB), and we are working on setting up a link to use for payments using our intouch receipting system (Shoreline School District payment system that you may have used for lunch payments, etc.). I will make sure to let you know if/when this becomes an option. However, the first step is to register.
REGISTRATION:
Centrum has also historically provided scholarships, and is doing so again this year. Because Centrum provides us with a scholarship rate and our PTSA covers a portion of our cost, all Cascade K-8 participants will register using the “Register with a Scholarship” button when you enter the registration page.
This will allow you to register without paying the full cost of the program up front as we will be collecting payment later. I will communicate the fee structure once we have the set amount Centrum will offer us as a discount.
When you register using this link, you will be asked how much you can afford to pay for the camp, and questions about household income.
You may choose to enter N/A on your income amount (or a series of numbers if it requires numbers) as we will be paying on a different fee structure. The program manager has assured me this is acceptable, so please don't worry.
If you could afford to pay the entire cost of the camp, click on the highest amount shown on the sliding scale.
There is a $25 registration fee when you register with a scholarship. If the registration fee is a hardship for your family, you may register over the phone to make arrangements (360) 385 3102 ext.120. If you are not comfortable speaking with the Centrum program manager regarding your payment, please contact our family advocate, Erin Maurer(erin.maurer@ssd412.org) so she can work with Centrum to make sure there is a system that works for you. This is TRULY a sliding scale, and Centrum will work to ensure that each participant who wants to attend is able to do so.
As soon as you are able to sit down with your student and register, please do so. Classes fill up quickly and we want students to have a wide variety of choices.
The goal is to have EVERYONE registered by JANUARY 20, 2023 . (We are able to register without full payment, so don’t worry that you have to have money pulled together in 4 weeks!)
Payments will come to the main office, or be submitted via the Shoreline Public Schools online payment system.

Read about the classes and instructors and choose your 8th grade student’s top choices. Please complete the forms (coming home this week) and return them to school as soon as possible, but no later than February 10, 2023

Permission to Administer Medication at School*
*If your child requires medication to be given at camp, including anything over the counter, this form must be completed and signed by your health-care professional. Please contact Nurse Julie 206-393-4187 if you have questions, or need a form.
Please submit all forms by Friday, February 10th so Julie has time to process medication and we have time to collect any missing field trip forms before the mid-winter break.
