11.4.22 Staff Blog
One more session of fall conferences in the books! Thank you for your work in communicating with families in scheduling and hosting conferences. I hope you all stay warm and cozy this weekend! As a reminder, here is the information from our district regarding inclement weather, just in case. https://www.shorelineschools.org/Domain/63
Please note that, in the event of a 2 hour late arrival, we will still offer breakfast to students starting at 11:10. Happy Friday!
Quick Look:
EVALUATION: ACTION
For all, your student growth goal will be linked as an artifact under the observation in eVal labeled “student growth goal”. This is often an area of confusion as there is a link on the left side of the teacher dashboard labeled “student growth goal”. Instead, please link your student growth goal form under the artifacts section of the observation labeled “student growth goal”.
Growth Goal Forms:
If you have not signed up for a focused observation (or an observation cycle including conferences if you are on comprehensive), please take some time to do so. Here is a link to a calendar for signing up.

FROM THE CK-8 UPDATE FOR FAMILIES: HELPFUL
ATTENDANCE POLICY CHANGE:
Our School Board recently revised Policy 3122 to bring us into compliance with the changes in state law. As a result, we want to do everything we can to ensure that our students and families are aware of this change.
amilies.
After hearing from youth across the state of Washington the legislature recognized that students' mental health is a component of their physical health and that students' mental health can affect their ability to learn. The legislature found that school districts were not consistently recognizing student absences for mental health reasons as excused absences. Therefore, through House Bill 1834 the legislature now requires that student absences for mental health reasons are recognized as excused absences. As a result, the School District has revised Board policy 3122, Excused and Unexcused Absences, to reflect this change.
Here is the link to the entire Policy.

ETHNIC STUDIES APPLICATION DEADLINE EXTENDED: ACTION
In Summer 2020, the Shoreline School Board passed the Ethnic Studies Resolution..."We affirm our belief that the integration and addition of ethnic studies into the education of Shoreline School District’s students can have a positive impact on eliminating opportunity gaps.”
To create an intentional and sustainable Ethnic Studies Program P-12, the Ethnic Studies Fellows program was created. Through a partnership of WAESN (Washington Ethnic Studies Now), Equity and Instruction, and facilitated by Dr. Tanisha Brandon-Felder, this year long intensive fellowship will focus on the pedagogy and framework of Ethnic Studies with deep explorations of:
· Teaching for Black Lives,
· Asian American and Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Experience on the West Coast,
· Centering Indigenous Voices.
There is an expectation to both grow your awareness and capacity in your own schools and to work with other ES Cohort members (current and past) on how to implement pedagogy in the classroom.
Ethnic Studies Fellows will meet once a month from 4:30pm-6:30pm on Zoom to earn up to 20 clock hours. You must be able to commit to the times and dates.
To apply, please complete this form. (Note: the application deadline for the program has been extended) Fellows will now begin in January 2023

The video from Carrie Strawn re: using iReady data to fill out the family communication/description of service forms is linked here if you would like to share it in a staff meeting. It will also be added to the Conference Resource Guide. Carrie and I are also able to come out and do a 10 minute spiel at a staff meeting if you would prefer.
For paraeducators working with grade 1 & 2 students who missed the training: video version of the training and link to the scope and sequence of enrichment activities has been emailed directly to them. Since some paras do not check their district email regularly, please share with them that the info has been sent.
