11.18.22 Staff Blog
I was lucky to have an opportunity to present our School Improvement Plan at the school board meeting this week. During that time, I was proud to share the work you all have been doing on behalf of our students and families. During this and every season, I think it is important to pause and reflect on the highlights of the calendar year. For me, that has definitely been the opportunity to work with such an amazing group of educators. Thank you for bringing this gift to my life. I appreciate you very much, and am grateful for our continued work together.

STAFF SHOUT OUTS: HELPFUL
Thank you so much for filling out a staff shout out! If you would like to recognize a colleague, please use the link at the top of the blog. Here they are for this week!:
Kelly is always seeking solutions and working to advocate for students. Each time I work with Kelly, I learn more about equitable practices and ways of showing up for our students that really impact student learning. Thank you, Kelly!
Kim is such a calm presence with students, which allows our students to access learning in ways that are so important. Kim's care for students is obvious in every interaction. Thank you, Kim!
Roberta has come into the CK-8 Family this year with so much positivity and grace. The ways in which she approaches learning from and with our students and families is so important, and I am so glad to work with Roberta.
Micaela is someone who leaves others better than she found them. She is relentless in supporting students and advocating for student emotional well being. I have learned so much from Micaela this year, and I am so glad I get to work with Micaela.
Nicole is a leader in our building who regularly engages in courageous conversations with students and adults. Nicole has a way of addressing very challenging topics in a way that takes the worry and fear out of these conversations and is always focused on finding a solution. The students and families at Cascade look to Nicole for her guidance in many ways, and I feel very lucky to have Nicole on our team.
PLEASE WELCOME OUR NEW FAMILY ADVOCATE: HELPFUL

HALF DAY WEDNESDAY 11/23:HELPFUL
Students will be dismissed at 11:55 on Wednesday (11/23). We will use the same schedule we used during fall conferences, which includes a short lunch break/recess break (at 11:30) before dismissal. If students want to buy lunch on this day, they may. If not, they may have a snack during this short break.
ETHNIC STUDIES APPLICATION DEADLINE EXTENDED: ACTION
In Summer 2020, the Shoreline School Board passed the Ethnic Studies Resolution..."We affirm our belief that the integration and addition of ethnic studies into the education of Shoreline School District’s students can have a positive impact on eliminating opportunity gaps.”
To create an intentional and sustainable Ethnic Studies Program P-12, the Ethnic Studies Fellows program was created. Through a partnership of WAESN (Washington Ethnic Studies Now), Equity and Instruction, and facilitated by Dr. Tanisha Brandon-Felder, this year long intensive fellowship will focus on the pedagogy and framework of Ethnic Studies with deep explorations of:
· Teaching for Black Lives,
· Asian American and Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Experience on the West Coast,
· Centering Indigenous Voices.
There is an expectation to both grow your awareness and capacity in your own schools and to work with other ES Cohort members (current and past) on how to implement pedagogy in the classroom.
Ethnic Studies Fellows will meet once a month from 4:30pm-6:30pm on Zoom to earn up to 20 clock hours. You must be able to commit to the times and dates.
To apply, please complete this form. (Note: the application deadline for the program has been extended) Fellows will now begin in January 2023
