STAFF SHOUT OUTS: HELPFUL

Thank you so much for filling out a staff shout out! If you would like to recognize a colleague, please use the link at the top of the blog. Here they are for this week!:

Janet is so amazing when she shares student progress at conferences. She is so positive and helps struggling readers feel successful and confident!  You can see the kids light up when they celebrate their success with their parents.

Susie is unflappable and ever positive.   She goes above and beyond as a teacher (and a human being): from subbing at a moment's notice, to brainstorming outside the box to resolve student behaviors, to brining coffee to a colleague in need.   Susie, we are SO lucky to have you at Cascade K-8!

PLEASE WELCOME OUR NEW SLP: HELPFUL

Erica Cunningham (erica.cunningham@ssd412.org) will be joining the Cascade K-8 Family as our new .3 SLP.  Welcome, Erica!

ETHNIC STUDIES APPLICATION DEADLINE EXTENDED: ACTION

In Summer 2020, the Shoreline School Board passed the Ethnic Studies Resolution..."We affirm our belief that the integration and addition of ethnic studies into the education of Shoreline School District’s students can have a positive impact on eliminating opportunity gaps.”

To create an intentional and sustainable Ethnic Studies Program P-12, the Ethnic Studies Fellows program was created. Through a partnership of WAESN (Washington Ethnic Studies Now), Equity and Instruction, and facilitated by Dr. Tanisha Brandon-Felder, this year long intensive fellowship will focus on the pedagogy and framework of Ethnic Studies with deep explorations of:

·      Teaching for Black Lives,

·      Asian American and Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Experience on the West Coast,

·      Centering Indigenous Voices.

There is an expectation to both grow your awareness and capacity in your own schools and to work with other ES Cohort members (current and past) on how to implement pedagogy in the classroom.

Ethnic Studies Fellows will meet once a month from 4:30pm-6:30pm on Zoom to earn up to 20 clock hours. You must be able to commit to the times and dates.

To apply, please complete this form.  (Note: the application deadline for the program has been extended) Fellows will now begin in January 2023
