9.30.22 Staff Blog
I am looking forward to my first experience with CK-8 camp! I have learned that you are all so knowledgeable and organized regarding all things camp and I wanted to take this opportunity to send out a big THANK YOU to each of you. Seeing the moving pieces come together this week has been inspiring, and has reinforced my belief that you are all amazing. I hope you have a wonderful weekend.
Quick Look:
FROM OUR DISTRICT INSTRUCTIONAL DEPARTMENT: HELPFUL (PLEASE NOTE LINKED CALENDAR WAS UPDATED ON 9/16)
We’ve updated the Wednesday early release calendar to align our secondary schools. We’ve also updated the job-alike times so that secondary deans and librarians and secondary CTE, PE, visual arts, music, world language and directed studies teachers will be on the same Wednesday district time schedule as their other secondary colleagues. The updated job-alike schedule is at the bottom of the 2022-23 Early Release
EVACUATION DRILL FEEDBACK: ACTION
Please provide your feedback from the emergency drill on Tuesday using this form. Thank you for helping us to practice for safety at Cascade K-8.
STAFF SHOUT OUTS: HELPFUL
Thank you so much for filling out a staff shout out! If you would like to recognize a colleague, please use the link at the top of the blog. Here they are for this week!:
EVALUATION: ACTION
Please make sure your self evaluation is complete in eVal by the end of the day today (9/30). As you complete your self evaluations, I have been changing your evaluation cycle to the correct one for you for this year (*remember, all have to be set on comprehensive during the self evaluation phase).
If you see that you are on a focused evaluation cycle this year, please submit your area of focus using this form. Right now, I have all focused evaluations set at a default for C3. I will go back and change those if needed as I receive your responses.
Sign up for a pre-observation (comprehensive only), an observation (all), and post observation (comprehensive required, focused optional but is a good time for reflection and discussion about student growth goals). Please note in your description if this will be a pre, post, or observation. Here is a link to the calendar for signing up: https://calendar.google.com/calendar/u/0/selfsched?sstoken=UUpnLVRIc0h1bnI0fGRlZmF1bHR8YTM3N2RhNjNhZjk3NGVhNGJiNGUxNjMzODc2ZTg1MjA
As a reminder, please make sure you give yourself enough time (especially comprehensive) to complete provided questions before we meet. If none of these times work for you, please email me so we can plan together.
EVALUATION:HELPFUL
You have probably been receiving emails from the eVal system as I set up questions and observations in eVal. Please know that I do these in advance for the whole year so you know what to expect. Each observation listed in eVal signifies a time of year that we will need to meet.
If you are on a focused cycle, I provided post questions for you to reflect on prior to our meeting but you do not need to submit them in advance. They are there to guide our conversation after the lesson or in combination with a conference near an observation time (such as our student growth goal conference). I also provided the prompts for teacher evidence gathering so that you would have them available to you if you have unobservable components of your focus area and so that we can discuss artifacts at our final conference in May.
If you are on a comprehensive cycle, I provided pre and post questions for you to answer before we meet regarding each observation cycle. Please know that these are intended to provide evidence in areas that I do not observe in the classroom, and the intent is to fill in that evidence over the course of the SCHOOL YEAR. I am calling this out so that you recognize we have time to collect that evidence and not all needs to be completed at once. In that same spirit, I also provided the prompts for teacher evidence gathering so that you would have them available to you to add evidence of unobservable components as the year goes on so we can discuss artifacts at our final conference in May. I will be checking with you at about mid-year so that you remember to add teacher evidence.
For all, your student growth goal will be linked as an artifact under the observation in eVal labeled “student growth goal”. This is often an area of confusion as there is a link on the left side of the teacher dashboard labeled “student growth goal”. Instead, please link your student growth goal form under the artifacts section of the observation labeled “student growth goal”. We will take time on an early release day or staff meeting to work on student growth goals and I will make sure you have links to forms that you will use to document your goal.
FROM OUR EQUITY AND FAMILY ENGAGEMENT DEPARTMENT: ACTION
To apply, please complete this form. Deadline for application is October 5th at noon.
Dear Shoreline Certificated Staff,
In Summer 2020, the Shoreline School Board passed the Ethnic Studies Resolution..."We affirm our belief that the integration and addition of ethnic studies into the education of Shoreline School District’s students can have a positive impact on eliminating opportunity gaps.”
To create an intentional and sustainable Ethnic Studies Program P-12, the Ethnic Studies Fellows program was created. Through a partnership of WAESN (Washington Ethnic Studies Now), Equity and Instruction, and facilitated by Dr. Tanisha Brandon-Felder, this year long intensive fellowship will focus on the pedagogy and framework of Ethnic Studies with deep explorations of:
· Teaching for Black Lives,
· Asian American and Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Experience on the West Coast,
· Centering Indigenous Voices.
There is an expectation to both grow your awareness and capacity in your own schools and to work with other ES Cohort members (current and past) on how to implement pedagogy in the classroom. This is for certificated staff at this time, but we are not accepting applications from subs.
Ethnic Studies Fellows will meet once a month (October 2022-June, 2023) from 4:30pm-6:30pm on Zoom to earn up to 20 clock hours. You must be able to commit to the times and dates.
We intend to have teachers from each grade band (P-2, 3-5, MS, and HS) and ideally 2 from each building in the district.
** Please note that we are unable to accept Leave Replacements or subs into this Fellows Program***
Thank you!
